This mellow little lake spot is up there with my favorite places to paddle board close to home. While Clear Lake is not large by any means, it is beautiful, peaceful, and the perfect compliment to other adventures up Guanella Pass. (Even in the fall when Guanella is PACKED, this spot gets overlooked!)
You can drive right up to the put-in - from there, you can paddle or kayak around to various little coves and spots where my kids love to hop off and explore. At the far right end of the lake is a small cascading waterfall where fish love to hang out. The lake is very clear (hence the name!) so your kiddos will be able to easily spot the happy little fish below. If you’re a fishing family, I would definitely bring a rod as well to try your luck!
If paddle sports aren’t your thing, it’s still a great spot to check out. There’s a bit of a beach to dip your toes into and enjoy a snack or picnic by the water.
DRIVE-UP TIPS
Quick Pit Spot. If you aren’t fishing or paddling, it’s likely a fairly quick stop as there isn’t much to see via foot at Clear Lake. I still recommend hitting it up though for a snack!
Bring water shoes. If your little ones are like mine, they’ll want to hop off the board or kayak and explore on the far side of the lake (or climb onto the boulders in the water). Water shoes will be super helpful for this!
MAKE A DAY OF IT
Visit Silverdale Heritage Trails for a Woods Wander. See post on this cute little trail system a few minutes drive from Clear Lake.
Georgetown Loop Railroad. Right in Georgetown, you can hop on the Georgetown Loop Railroad which takes you on a 1hr15min picturesque ride from Georgetown to Silver Plume (it’s a loop so will bring you back to the Georgetown station). It’s especially gorgeous in the fall - advance tickets required.
