Frisco, generally, is such a great little hidden gem that people pass right by on the way to more glam places in Summit County. We absolutely love Frisco because it’s an easy day trip from the foothills, and there is tons to do both on the water + off. A friend of mine told me about Frisco Bay Marina on Dillon Reservoir, specifically that they had a nice sandy “beach” so naturally we had to check it out.

We went early summer when it was still sweatshirt weather and the crowds were light. The water was still pretty low so lots of shallow water channels and rocks to explore. And a good bit of mud :) Although you can’t technically swim in Dillion Rez, once the marina opens at the end of May, they offer paddle board + kayak rentals. You can also bring your own and take turns paddling out while the family plays at the beach. We saw lots of fishermen too and can’t wait to take Dad back! And the views… all the high country goodness!

DRIVE-UP TIPS

  • Advanced Reservations for Rentals. The marina recommends advanced reservations for all watercraft rentals (especially on weekends in the summer). You can call Frisco Bay Marina at 970-668-4334 for availability and reservations.

  • Bring water shoes. Although the beach is sandy, if your kids like to explore like mine, there is some rocky terrain around the beach and water shoes are helpful!

  • Bring all the beach things - umbrella, blanket, chairs. There is no shade at the beach so treat it like a day in Florida and bring your full beach set-up!

MAKE A DAY OF IT

  • Marina Restaurant. While we didn’t try it, there is a cute little waterfront marina restaurant if you didn’t feel like packing a picnic.

  • Marina Playground. For little ones who get restless easy, there is a sweet little playground onsite.

  • Downtown Frisco. I don’t know how I’ve lived in CO for 15 years and just discovered downtown Frisco, but it is seriously so cute and worth checking out for coffee, lunch, or some shopping after your beach day!
